Meet Parksen’s Team — Episode 3: Paul Heath

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the third episode of a brand-new series in which we will introduce to you the members of our highly skilled team of experts. By highlighting their experiences, accolades and achievements, we aim to illustrate in which ways they can contribute to the success of the Parksen Green, Smart and Connected City Platform.

On today’s episode: our Chief of Security, Paul Heath.

Paul is a well-spoken, calculated thinker with eyes that light up whenever he gets to talk about cyber security and critically acclaimed sci-fi movies. Armed with a warm smile and a firm handshake, he is among the most grounded and collected individuals within the Parksen team. Constantly thinking in terms of resolutions instead of problems, he brings something exceptionally important to the table: calm, yet decisive reasoning.

As one would expect from a Certified Ethical Hacker, Paul is constantly aware of potential security threats. His knowledge and experience allow him to consider things that the rest of us would not consider. Given the industry in which we are operating, this makes Paul the perfect man for the job: a confident professional with a modest demeanor.

Microsoft Trainer

If you have been keeping up with this series and read the previous episode with our IT Architect Fokko van den Bosch, you may have noticed that him and Paul go way back. At one point in time, Paul started working together with Fokko as a Microsoft Trainer due to the overwhelming demand.

Paul’s professional career in IT started back in 2003, when he started offering his services as a Technical Consultant. Primarily working with MS Windows 2000/2003 and Windows XP clients, he started putting all of his Microsoft certificates to the test.

Municipalities, Government and Banking

Constantly honing his skills and delivering consistently quality work, Paul did not go unnoticed for long. In November of 2003 he took on a project for the Rotterdam municipality. As an interim Senior Systems Specialist, he assisted them with setting up an Internet Service Provider environment for their entire system.

This adventure then led him to the ING bank, where he spent a year working as their Systems Architect. Paul designed Active Directory and Exchange 2003 design and implementations for their Asian and American branches. He also advised them on all matters security, drafting up documentation using Microsoft best practices.

From there, Paul found his way to an unlikely employer: the Dutch government. He worked as an AD Migration Specialist for the Department of Justice, where he developed and implemented a Microsoft NT4 migration design. Paul continued working for the government but moved to the Department of Defense where he held a function as Architecture Consultant for over half a year.

Parking Industry and Telecom

Another thing we love about Paul is his extensive experience working within the Parking industry and when we say extensive, we mean extensive. Between 2009 and 2014, Paul was working as a Senior Technical Consultant for the Amsterdam municipality. Here, he designed and implemented a brand-new parking permit system and automatized software, all the while leading and supporting a team of developers.

When his period at the Amsterdam municipality came to an end, Paul joined one of the largest Dutch telecom companies KPN as a Solutions Architect in 2014, and he still provides them with services until this day. Paul joined us over a year ago, and, as with our entire team, Paul’s experience and history speak for itself.

What is his role within Parksen?

Paul is a voice of reason, a disciplined and knowledgeable force of nature. He is here to make sure that our systems are safe and your funds secure. Thanks to him, we feel prepared for anything and we could not do what we do without him at our side.

That’s it for today, thank you for reading. Keep an eye on our Medium Channel and social media for the next team member. See you then!
